Ingredients
  

For the Brisket

  • 3-4 lb beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder optional for heat
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced

For the Caramelization

  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon beef drippings from slow cooker or roasting pan
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Season the brisket generously with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder if desired. Rub thoroughly and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until a deep, golden crust forms.
  • Place the brisket in the slow cooker. Scatter sliced onion and minced garlic over the top.
  • In a bowl, mix beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and brown sugar. Pour the mixture over the brisket.
  • Cook on low for 8-9 hours.
  • Remove the brisket and set aside. In a pan, melt butter over medium heat; stir in brown sugar, beef drippings, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until syrupy.
  • Brush the glaze over the brisket and return to the slow cooker for another hour.
  • Shred the brisket with forks. Serve hot, drizzling extra caramel sauce over the top.

Notes

Serve with additional barbecue sauce if desired.
