Main Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 400 g beef mince
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 100 g carrot, grated
  • 2 400g tins chopped tomatoes
  • 400 ml stock made from stock cube, ideally beef
  • 400 g dried spaghetti
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Cooking Method

  • Heat a large saucepan over medium heat, add a tablespoon of olive oil and the beef mince with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until browned and transfer to a bowl.
  • In the same saucepan, add another tablespoon of olive oil, onions, and a pinch of salt. Fry for 5-6 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for another 2 minutes. Mix in grated carrot and return the browned mince to the pan.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and stock to the pan, bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and simmer gently for 45 minutes until the sauce is thick and rich. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Cook spaghetti in boiling salted water according to packet instructions. Once cooked, drain and add to the bolognese sauce. Mix well and serve.

Notes

This bolognese sauce can be cooked in advance and frozen. Keep in a freezer-proof container for up to 3 months.
